Our Story

Engineering company, Hepworth & Grandage Ltd, was founded in Bradford in 1907. They manufactured internal combustion engine components.

In 1947 Associated Engineering Group was then formed to embrace Hepworth & Grandage Ltd, the British Piston Ring Company and Wellworthy Ltd. At their height in the 1960’s, Hepworth & Grandage Ltd employed 5500 people and a production was spread over four plants in Bradford, Leeds, Saltaire and Sunderland. The range of brands include Hepolite, Wellworthy and Covmo.

In 1986 Associated Engineering Group was purchased by Turner & Newall Ltd, followed in 1998 by Federal Mogul Ltd.

However, In the1970’s as the company increasingly focused on large volume orders, Peter Hepworth (first of the fourth generation) saw an opportunity to continue the supply of small batch production into companies such as Rolls-Royce Motors Ltd. Peter Hepworth formed his own company, Peter Hepworth Components Ltd, to specialise in the manufacture and supply of chassis and internal combustion engine components to the automotive, marine and rail industries and the MOD.

In 2017 Peter Hepworth started to consider retirement and approached Flying Spares Ltd, as his biggest customer (alongside Bentley Motors) of automotive parts, to see whether they would be interested in buying this part of his business.

A deal for the goodwill was concluded in 2018 with a separate company, PH Components Ltd, being formed.

This new smaller company, with ISO 9001: 2015 certification, was created in order to focus solely on small batch production of selected quality parts to be sold exclusively to Flying Spares Ltd and Bentley Motors.
